Ceremony Traditions

Las Arras Matrimoniales (The Marriage Coins)

In Mexican wedding tradition, the arras are 13 gold coins blessed during the ceremony and exchanged between the couple as a sign of commitment, trust, and shared life.

El Lazo (Wedding Lasso)

During the ceremony, the couple is joined by el lazo, a rosary placed around their shoulders in a figure-eight, symbolizing their unity in marriage.

Presentation of the Bouquet

As part of the ceremony, the couple presents a bridal bouquet to the Virgin of Guadalupe as a moment of prayer and gratitude.

Reception Traditions

La Vibora de la Mar (Sea Snake Dance)

La Vibora de la Mar (Sea Snake Dance) is a traditional dance where the bride and groom stand on chairs, forming an arch with the bride’s veil as guests pass beneath, playfully weaving through, while family surrounds them in support.

Tossing the Groom (and Bride!)

As part of a family tradition, the groom is lifted and tossed in the air by his friends and family using a blanket. Sometimes the bride joins in, with the women doing the same.

Bouquet and Tie Toss

We will also be including this familiar wedding activity.
